Connection-Wise End-to-End Delay Analysis in ATM Networks

چکیده
A systematic method for connection-wise endto-end delay analysis in asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) networks is proposed. This method consists of the followings: (i) per-stream nodal analysis; (ii) output processes characterization; and (iii) moment matching scheme. Following our previous work [1], we employ H-MMPPs/Slotted D/1 to model ATM queues. Each virtual connection (VC) in ATM networks can be regarded as a tandem configuration of such queues. In [1], the per-stream analytical results for such an H-MMPPs/Slotted D/1 queue have been provided. In this paper, not only the composite output process is exactly characterized, but also the component in an output process that corresponds to a specific traffic stream is approximated via a decomposition scheme. A moment matching scheme to emulate the per-stream output process as a two-state MMPP is further proposed. Through moment matching, we can then approximate the connection-wise end-to-end delay by recursively performing the nodal performance analysis. The connection-wise end-to-end delay is crucial to network resource decision or control problems such as call admission control (CAC) and routing. key words: ATM, MMPP, H-MMPPs/Slotted D/1 queue, tan-

Analysis and Simulation of Delay and Buffer Requirements of satellite-ATM Networks for TCP/IP Traffic
In this paper we present a model to study the end-to-end delay performance of a satellite-ATM network. We describe a satellite-ATM network architecture. The architecture presents a trade-off between the on-board switching/processing features and the complexity of the satellite communication systems. The end-to-end delay of a connection passing through a satellite constellation consists of the t...

A systematic method for link/connection-wise end-to-end performance evaluation in queueing networks receiving heterogeneous Markov-modulated Poisson processes (H-MMPPs) is proposed. The method consists of (i) connection-wise nodal performance analysis; (ii) tagged departure process analysis; and (iii) moment matching. For the tagged departure process of an H-MMPPs/G/1 queue, we propose two deco...
متن کاملFault Tolerant Real-Time Connection Admission Control for Mission Critical Applications over ATM-Based Networks
In this paper, we present methods to provide faulttolerant real-time communication over ATM networks. Specifically, we are concerned with messages that have to be delivered by their deadlines even in the presence of faults. Connection-oriented communications service is well-suited for mission critical applications that demand delay guarantees. A critical part of connection oriented communicatio...
متن کاملParallel simulation of end-to-end ATM models
The problem of end-to-end connection performance in Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks is extremely important because its solution provides the information (such as end-to-end delay distribution and cell loss ratio) necessary for the definition of the Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees for real-time connections. Due to the analytical complexities inherent in this problem, we are seeking...
متن کاملA Simulation Study of Delay and Delay Variation in ATM Networks, Part 1: CBR Traffic
Through comprehensive simulation studies, we have evaluated the ATM layer end-to-end performance of a Constant Bit Rate (CBR) MPEG2 connection. For most practical cases that we have considered, a Cell Delay Variation (CDV) value of 160sec is obtained (using 155 Mbps OC-3 rate), well below the 1 msec worst case stated in prior studies 1]]2]. The results also indicate that the Uniform distributio...
